SAE AISI 4340 Alloy Steel Round Bars are high-strength, low-alloy steels characterized by their exceptional toughness and ductility, even in large sections. The addition of Nickel sets this grade apart, providing better fracture toughness and hardenability than 4140 or 16Mo3. Often supplied in the pre-hardened and tempered condition, these bars are ready for high-stress applications without further heat treatment.
Key Performance Features:
Superior Through-Hardening: Uniform hardness and strength across the entire cross-section of large diameter bars.
Extreme Toughness: High resistance to shock and impact, making it ideal for safety-critical components.
Excellent Fatigue Strength: Engineered to withstand cyclic loading and heavy-duty mechanical stress.
Versatile Finishing: Can be further surface hardened via nitriding or induction for maximum wear resistance.
Common Applications:
Aerospace landing gear and high-stress structural parts.
Heavy-duty power transmission gears and shafts.
Forged steel crankshafts, axles, and spindles.
High-pressure hydraulic components and oil & gas drilling tools.
