Material Overview
F6NM (UNS S41500 / EN 1.4313 / X3CrNiMo13-4) is a low-carbon 13% chromium, 4% nickel, 0.5% molybdenum martensitic stainless steel. Developed for improved weldability, toughness, and cavitation erosion resistance compared to standard 12% Cr martensitic steels (such as 410 or 420), F6NM is widely used in hydro-turbines, valve bodies, pumps, compressors, and offshore oil and gas equipment.

F6NM Scrap & Foundry Grade Characteristics
Types of Scrap: Forging crops, heavy plate cut-offs, valve body gates and risers, pump casing runners, bar end cuts, machine turnings, and solid foundry melt stock.
Scrap Grades:
Heavy Solid Foundry Scrap: Clean, heavy-gauge forged or cast cut-offs, ideal for induction furnace re-melting.
Loose Scrap / Crop Ends: Cut pieces from forging operations, test coupons, and structural cut-offs.
Turnings / Borings: Machining chips (must be degreased and free of high-sulfur cutting fluids or foreign alloys).
Sorting & Quality Verification:
Magnetic Property: F6NM is strongly magnetic, distinguishing it from 300-series austenitic stainless steels.
PMI/XRF Verification: Essential to verify the presence of 3.5% to 5.5% Nickel and 0.5% to 1.0% Molybdenum to prevent mixing with standard 410 (0% Ni/Mo) or 420 grades.
Contamination Limits: High-purity scrap must be free of cross-contamination from high-carbon, high-sulfur, or non-ferrous elements.
