EN AW-5083 (AlMg4.5Mn0.7) is a high-strength, non-heat-treatable alloy widely regarded as the industry standard for marine and extreme-environment applications. It offers the highest strength among the 5000-series alloys while maintaining exceptional weldability and resistance to seawater corrosion.
ISO: AlMg4.5Mn0.7
WNr (Werkstoffnummer): 3.3547
UNS: A95083
BS: N8
While both tempers are physically similar, the difference lies in the final processing stage. In many commercial contexts, they are often dual-certified as O/H111.
5083-O (Annealed): This is the fully soft condition. The material is heated to its recrystallization temperature to remove all internal stresses. It offers maximum ductility and is the easiest to bend or form into complex shapes.
5083-H111 (Work-Hardened): This material is annealed and then subjected to a very small amount of work hardening during the final straightening or leveling process. It is slightly stiffer than the "O" temper but retains excellent formability.
The properties of 5083 can vary slightly depending on the thickness of the plate.

Marine Excellence: It is the preferred grade for shipbuilding (hulls and decks) because it does not lose its corrosion resistance after being welded.
Temperature Limit:Important! 5083 is not recommended for continuous service in temperatures exceeding 65C (150F). High-magnesium alloys can become susceptible to intergranular corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking at elevated temperatures.
Weldability: Rated as excellent for arc welding (MIG/TIG). The recommended filler wire is typically 5183 to match the strength of the base metal.
Applications:
LNG and cryogenic storage tanks.
Pressure vessels (unfired).
Marine structures and offshore platforms.
High-strength vehicle bodies (tipper trucks, rail cars).
