
Stainless steel 201 scrap (UNS S20100 / AISI 201) and pressed 201 scrap consist of low-nickel, high-manganese austenitic stainless steel generated from kitchenware, automotive trim, structural tubing, architectural panels, and deep-drawn hollowware. Sourced from manufacturing stamped off-cuts, scrap presses, and post-consumer goods, this grade is valued in metallurgical recycling as an economical source of chromium and iron with a controlled nickel content.

Nickel: 3.50 to 5.50 percent

Phosphorus: 0.060 percent maximum
Sulfur: 0.030 percent maximum
Copper: Variable (typically up to 2.00 percent in custom or J4/J1 commercial sub-grades)

Physical Properties and Condition
Physical Form: Heavy sheet trimmings, stamped skeletons, cut tubing off-cuts, kitchenware scrap, or hydraulically compressed dense bales and bundles (pressed scrap).
Cleanliness Standard: Clean, dry material free from plastic protective films, rubber attachments, heavy draw grease, aluminum or zinc inclusions, cast iron, magnetic carbon steel cross-contamination, and non-metallic trash.
Solid Density: 7.86 grams per cubic centimeter.
Bulk Density: 1.5 to 3.0 metric tons per cubic meter for loose sheet/tubing scrap; 2.5 to 4.5 metric tons per cubic meter for hydraulically pressed bales and bundles.
Magnetic Property: Non-magnetic in annealed state; weakly magnetic after cold working or heavy pressing/drawing.
Melting Point Range: 1400 to 1450 degrees Celsius.

200-Series Stainless Steel Re-melting: Serves as a primary raw material charge in Electric Arc Furnaces and Induction Furnaces for mills producing 200-series stainless steel products.
Economical Chromium and Nickel Unit Carrier: Functions as a cost-effective scrap charge in stainless foundries, supplying controlled nickel and chromium while lowering overall raw material costs compared to 300-series scrap.
Argon Oxygen Decarburization Charging: Utilized during AOD refining operations to build baseline chromium and manganese levels prior to final chemical tuning.
