Kovar (UNS designation K94610, W.Nr. 1.3981 / FeNi29Co18) is a controlled-expansion iron-nickel-cobalt alloy consisting of approximately 29% nickel, 17% cobalt, and the balance iron. It is marketed under trade names such as Kovar, NILO K, Pernifer 2918, Rodar, and Dilver P.

Kovar is engineered to provide a linear thermal expansion coefficient closely matching hard borosilicate (Pyrex) glass and alumina ceramics from room temperature up to approximately 400 C (750 F). This matching prevents thermal shock stress and interface fracturing, making it the industry standard for hermetic glass-to-metal and ceramic-to-metal seals in power tubes, microelectronic packages, transistor headers, integrated circuit leads, and vacuum devices.
