Product Description

Inconel 738 (IN738) and its low-carbon variant Inconel 738 LC (IN738LC) are precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium-cobalt cast superalloys. Engineered for extreme hot corrosion resistance and high-temperature creep strength up to 982°C (1800°F), they are widely used in gas turbine blades, vanes, and integral wheels.

Scrap Classification & Re-Melting Guidelines

  • VAC Grade Classification: High-purity Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) / Vacuum Investment Casting scrap.

  • Low-Carbon (L/C) Designation: The L/C grade features tighter control on carbon content (0.09–0.13%) to reduce grain boundary carbide precipitation and improve castability/structural integrity in thin-walled turbine castings.

  • Foundry Forms: Investment casting gates, risers, cut blade/vane scrap, and clean solid structural cutoffs.

  • Processing Requirements: Must be stripped completely of thermal barrier coatings (TBC), platinum-aluminide diffusion coatings, and ceramic shell contaminants before re-melting under strict vacuum conditions.
