DIN 3.3535 (EN AW-5754) is a non-heat-treatable aluminum alloy that belongs to the 5000-series (Aluminium-Magnesium). Unlike the 2014A or 7075 alloys we discussed previously, 3.3535 is prized for its exceptional corrosion resistance, particularly in seawater and industrial atmospheres.
| Standard | Designation |
| Werkstoff Nr. (WNR) | 3.3535 |
| EN (European) | EN AW-5754 / EN AW-AlMg3 |
| DIN (Old German) | AlMg3 |
| UNS (USA) | A95754 |
| ISO | Al Mg3 |
Since 3.3535 is a work-hardened alloy rather than heat-treatable, its strength is determined by the amount of cold-rolling (Strain Hardening) it undergoes.
| Property | Soft (O / H111) | Half-Hard (H22 / H24) |
| Tensile Strength ($R_m$) | 190 240 MPa | 240 280 MPa |
| Yield Strength ($R_{p0.2}$) | 80 100 MPa | 160 200 MPa |
| Elongation ($A_{50mm}$) | 12% 18% | 5% 9% |
| Brinell Hardness | 45 55 HBW | 60 75 HBW |
This is the standout feature of WNr 3.3535. It is highly resistant to pitting and intergranular corrosion. It is the preferred choice for marine hardware, chemical tanks, and coastal architecture.
Unlike high-strength aerospace alloys, 3.3535 is highly weldable using MIG and TIG processes. The weld joints retain high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, making it ideal for large structural fabrications.
It produces a very high-quality finish when anodized. It is often used for decorative architectural panels where a uniform, aesthetic appearance is required.
Applications: Flooring (Treadplates), vehicle bodies, food processing equipment, and signage.
Formability: In the 'O' (annealed) or H111 condition, it has excellent cold-formability and can be bent to tight radii without cracking.
Applications: Ship hull components, pressure vessels, and hydraulic manifolds.
Machinability: Moderate. It is softer than the 2000 or 7000 series, so it can be "gummy" during machining. High speeds and specialized lubricants are recommended to prevent the material from sticking to the tool.
| Feature | 3.3535 (AlMg3) | 3.4365 (7075) |
| Strength | Moderate | Extremely High |
| Corrosion Resistance | Excellent (Marine) | Poor (Sensitive) |
| Weldability | Excellent | Very Poor |
| Formability | High | Low (Brittle) |
| Primary Use | Shipbuilding / Chemical |
