Alloy Steel 4330V (UNS K23080) is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum "modified" alloy steel. The "V" signifies the addition of Vanadium, which significantly enhances the material's hardenability, grain refinement, and impact toughness compared to standard 4330 or 4340 grades.
It is a premium, aircraft-quality steel often produced via Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) to ensure extreme cleanliness for critical aerospace and energy components.
AMS 6411: The standard for 4330V bars, forgings, and tubing (VAR/ESR melt).
AMS 6427: A similar specification often used for parts requiring high strength and high toughness.
ASTM A646: Standard specification for premium-quality alloy steel blooms and billets for aircraft and aerospace forgings.
UNS K23080: The Unified Numbering System designation for this specific chemistry.
The addition of Vanadium is the secret to its performance, allowing for higher strength without a massive loss in ductility.
| Element | Range (%) |
| Carbon (C) | 0.28 0.33 |
| Chromium (Cr) | 0.75 1.00 |
| Nickel (Ni) | 1.65 2.00 |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | 0.35 0.50 |
| Vanadium (V) | 0.05 0.10 |
| Manganese (Mn) | 0.65 1.00 |
4330V is typically utilized in the high-strength range of 220 to 240 ksi (15171655 MPa).
Fracture Toughness: Superior to 4340 at similar strength levels, making it more resistant to crack propagation.
Impact Strength: Excellent performance even at sub-zero temperatures (down to -40C/F).
Fatigue Resistance: The VAR melting process removes impurities, providing exceptional fatigue life under cyclic loading.
Machinability: Best machined in the Annealed or Normalized & Tempered condition. It is rated at approximately 60% relative to AISI 1212.
Due to its niche aerospace and oilfield requirements, 4330V is often supplied as precision-ground or forged round bars.
Round Alloy Steel 4330V Bar (AMS 6411/6427)This 6-meter bar is a standard stock item for manufacturing landing gear assemblies and high-stress aerospace fasteners.
Certification: Full traceability to AMS 6411.
Condition: Available in Annealed or Heat Treated.
4330V High-Toughness Round BarOptimized for the Oil & Gas sector, this bar is frequently used for drill jars, tool joints, and heavy-duty drilling components where shock loading is frequent.
