The micro-alloying addition of Vanadium (0.10â0.25%) forms ultra-fine vanadium nitrides ($\text{VN}$) during gas or plasma nitriding. Procurement: Order as 1.8519 +QT (hardened, tempered, and peeled or ground bright round bar).
Rough Machining: Machine leaving $0.5\text{--}1.0\text{ mm}$ for final finishing.
Stress Relieving: Heat to 560°C â 580°C for 2+ hours and cool slowly. (Must be at least 30°C higher than the planned nitriding hold to prevent dimensional distortion).
